It’s your girl Mizz Saigon and I attended the DXC on wall street Saturday. I walked into this huge wharehouse filled with vendors selling sneakers‚hats‚watches and t-shirts. It was dope to see the young kids out there selling and trading sneakers from old to new and from Filas to Jordans. This event is the brain child of a man named Gary Hughes after buying a pair of fake sneakers from China. Since it’s creation the Dunk Xchange has now been a source for Hip Hop music‚ street wear and art. The first DXC was held in California and has since grown to over 8 more states. So it was amazing to see his creation at work. There were Skate Boarders with ramps and everything. I had a great time as my VIP bracelet got me into every inch of the event and to top it off it was an open bar! There were local acts with DJ Juanito getting the crowd hyped. Notables like Victor Cruz‚ Def Jam heavy weight Pecas‚ Jack Thriller‚DJ Boy Wonda‚ Young Sav‚ Puma (Black Ink Crew)‚ Uncutt (celebrity sneaker designer) and others.
Now instead of ordering sneakers and paying with your hard earned money only to end up with a pair of fake kicks‚ you have the luxury of attending the DXC and actually see what you are getting. All you sneaker heads should definitely check them out at dunkxchange.com for more info and event dates.

Every Monday Shampoo and team YNVS‘ first stop is The HighLife Lounge. This hot spot is located at 404 6th ave between 8th and 9th streets. Next stop is WIP NYC. This Monday Superstar DJ Kid Capri was DJing! Kid is from the Bronx where a number of notable artists have come from. All these mixed tapes everybody be bumping to now is a movement started by none other than Kid Capri! He is more than a dj‚ Kid is a Grammy award winning producer. He has produced for heavy weights like Madonna‚ Mary J Blige‚ R Kelly‚ P.Diddy‚ Usher‚ Nas and the list goes on. He has co-directed a movie with Loaded Luxe‚ been a judge on hit shows‚ toured and played to sold out shows and has had a number of cameos in music videos. He is so talented in my opinion all djs should be walking in his footsteps.
What’s so amazing about Kid Capri is even when he’s playing in a club he gives his all just the same as he would playing a sold out show. Monday night at WIP was no exception. He had girls feeling sexy and the guys feeling confident and most importantly everyone on the dance floor enjoying themselves. With the schedule that Kid has‚ we were lucky and most grateful to be partying with him that night. Come to WIP located at 34 Vandam street in the city on Monday nights. You never know who will be there but you can bet YNVS will be in the building!

It’s your girl Mizz Saigon and my blogworthy artist for today is none other than Joi Rocks. She is a female MC from Zimbabwe Africa. Joi was born in a small southern African town to her mom who sang in the choir and her dad a keyboard player and a DJ. So it is no wonder Joi knew how to play the piano at the young age of 6. She remembers her older sister playing all the dopest songs and from there falling in love with Hip Hop. Joi was writing her own rhymes and rapping by twelve years old. At a young age she lost her parents and knew she had to be strong to overcome any obstacles that would come her way. This would make her stong enough to deal with the struggles of the music industry especially being a woman.
When Joi relocated to the United States (Philadelphia) she picked up that east coast vibe and meshed it with her Mother Tongue. (Shona) This combination is what sets Joi Rocks aside from other female rappers and any rapper to be honest. Plus her confidence and cockiness yet cool and fun vibe is evenly balanced and inviting. She is a graduate with a degree in Management Information Systems.(MIS) With her education‚ life events and her African heritage there is no wonder to her dope lyrics. Joi brings this global air to Hip Hop that others just can’t pen and it is refreshing. She says‚ she thanks Tim The Toolman from Philadelphia (worked with crazy bone) for helping her hone her skills.
In January 2011 Joi gained Dave Lighty (of violator management) as her manager. She has shared the stage with the likes of Hell Rell‚ Petey Crack‚ Meek Mill and others. Joi has worked with Tornado Gang/Desert Storm‚ DJ Esso‚ producers Hot Runner‚ Rug from Batcave studios and Khardier Da God‚ (worked with Jae Millz) Michael Shawn (free agent radio) and was a guest on DaMatrix Studios‚ The Chop Shop Show on PNC Radio and others alike. She has said she would like to work with 2 Chains. There aren’t too many female rappers that catches my attention but‚ Joi Rocks being a writer‚ performer and business woman she’s a triple threat.
